What is hire and reward insurance?

If you deliver food or parcels, you need a type of insurance called hire and reward insurance. This can also be called carriage of goods insurance.

It’s important because delivery apps like Deliveroo and Just Eat require you to have this kind of cover. If you’re not sure you have it, chances are you probably don’t.

What to look for

First of all, check Google and Trustpilot for good reviews. INSHUR is proud to be rated Excellent Trustpilot - you can read our reviews here

Some insurers like INSHUR will cover you for hire and reward as well as everyday driving like dropping your kids off at school or going to see friends and family. This is known as Social, Domestic and Pleasure cover.

It’s also worth paying attention to the type of cover you want, whether that’s third party only for basic cover or a comprehensive policy with added benefits like a replacement vehicle.

Other things to look for:

  • Flexibility – maybe you’d prefer a 30-day policy before you move to an annual one? Some insurers, like INSHUR, also offer monthly payment options.
  • Simplicity – how easy is it to take out a policy? With INSHUR, you can quote and buy online within three minutes. We also email drivers with their policy documents straightaway.
  • Coverage – check whether you’ll be covered immediately, and whether you can work across different apps and platforms. This means you’ve got more opportunity to earn, plus you’ll be making the most of your insurance.

Where can you get hire and reward insurance?

There are lots of companies out there offering this type of insurance, so it’s worth going online to find out more about them. You can also ask your fellow drivers for a referral.
