Many Uber drivers will be cruising for riders in all the same old places. But that’s way too competitive. Instead, we’ve searched for different ways to cash in on the big events and make the most of other busy spots that may get overlooked. Scoop up the riders that the others never see.

With the holidays gone and January done, New York crawls towards Spring. However, first it must get through chilly Feb. It’s the moment to make the most of the coldest month of all. Read on to see February’s New York Uber Hotspots.

New York Fashion Week

Event: Semi-annual fashion fest for the industry.

Where: Around NY, but centered on Spring Studios, 50 Varick Street.

When: Thurs 6th to Thurs 13th Feb, 2020.

Times: Late morning to evening every day.

NY Fashion Week is a magnet for fashion buyers, designers and media from around the world. It’s a hectic whirl of shows, parties and publicity. Many labels host their shows at Spring Studios, but others seek more exclusive venues. Either way, expect a surge of riders around the favorite spots and the big hotels as the heavy-hitters come to town.

Insider’s scoop: The area around Spring Studios, between Hudson Street in the west and 6th Ave in the east, Canal Street to the north and Beach Street in the south, will be very congested. Pick up riders by the Tribeca Sheraton, one block east of 6th Avenue.

Cupid’s Undie Run

Event: Novelty fun run in underwear for Valentine’s Day fans.

Where: The DL, Delancey Street, Lower East Side.

When: Sat, 8th Jan 2020.

Times: noon ‘til 4.00pm.

Cupid’s Charity, which raises funds for the Children’s Tumor Foundation, is having its annual Undie Run in NYC. As hundreds of scantily-clad men and women run one mile in chilly weather to bring the cash pouring in, so thousands stop to gawk from the sidewalks. Be there to provide a warm car for those with frozen limbs – or more.

Insider’s scoop: Never mind the rubberneckers who pack the streets to watch the flesh go by, be near The DL (click here for map) at 4.00pm as the runner’s after-party draws to a close.

Chinese New Year’s Day Parade

Event: Parade to mark the Year of the Rat.

Where: Chinatown, Lower Manhattan .

When: Sunday, Feb 9th 2020.

Times: 1.00pm to 4.30pm.

Thousands line the streets and fill the Chinatown restaurants as this annual parade of dragons, dancers and crackling fireworks marks the rollover of the Chinese lunar year. Expect masses to throng the parade route, which starts at Mott Street and curls back towards Sara D. Roosevelt Park and Grand Street via Eldridge and Forsyth. (See map).

Insider’s scoop: Get an early-bird start on New Year riders at the Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival in Sara D. Roosevelt Park, Saturday, 25th Jan, 11.00am to 3.30pm.

Westminster Dog Show

Event: Elite show for elite dogs.

Where: Pier 94, 711 12th Ave and Madison Square Gardens.

When: Sun 9th to Tues 11th Feb 2020.

Times: Pier 94 – daytime judging 8.00am to 4.30pm. Madison Square Gardens for competition, from 7.30pm Sun and Mon, 7.00pm Tues.

Huge crowds will fill the event areas at Pier 94 and Madison Square Gardens to discover this year’s top dog. Expect canine lovers to stream from one venue to the next after 4.30pm and to be at their peak on Tuesday night at MSG when ‘best in show’ is crowned.

Insider’s scoop: The general public gets a hands-on chance to meet the dogs at a special American Kennel Club event at Javit’s Convention Center on Jan 25th and 26th, 10.00am to 5.00pm.

Harlem Fine Arts Show

Event: Art exhibits and sales show.

Where: Historic Riverside Church, Riverside Drive and West 122nd Street, Harlem.

When: Thurs 13th to Sun 16th Feb, 2020.

Times: 6.00pm to 11.00pm Thurs, 10.00am to 11.00pm Fri, 10.00am to 10.00pm Sat, noon to 6.00pm Sun.

February is Black History Month and the HFAS is back for its 11th outing. Thousands of visitors pack the Riverside Church (click here for map) for the nation’s biggest travelling show of African American art to view and buy rare pieces. Many art lovers will need a ride to get them and their purchases home.

Insider’s scoop: All the well-heeled donors and collectors will gather on Thursday evening for the Opening Night event. Expect surge demand around 11.00pm when the gala winds down.
