Where to Catch the Best Festive Lights in 2022 🎄

We know that a night shift in the dark and cold can drag. Luckily the Holiday season is in full swing, and those chilly December nights just got more sparkly! We’ve rounded up a list of where to catch the very best festive light displays from around the country, including some family destinations to share with loved ones.

High Street Lights

London

We couldn’t start this list without first mentioning the world-famous lights of London. This year, Carnaby Street takes inspiration from classic British rock including The Rolling Stones, or check out the dazzling tree at Covent Garden dressed in 30,000 twinkling lights!

Edinburgh

St James Quarter was the first to unveil its holiday decorations this year, with forty golden stars hanging overhead while shoppers admire festive window displays. The Royal Botanical Gardens return with its light show, while “Kingdom of Colour” festivities are in full swing at Edinburgh Castle. Have a look at lights fit for a king here!

Bristol

Travelling South, you can catch illuminations on the famous Corn Street, alongside lights at Clifton Village and the city centre. Bristol locals the Brailsfords have decked their Mum’s house out again this year in 50,000 lights, raising money for local charities along the way. Running for 27 years, the house is the stuff of local legend! Read more about their efforts here.

Portsmouth

Towards the coast, light displays kicked off in Fareham with their “Nutcracker Christmas”, followed by Lee-on-the-Solent, Gosport and Cosham. Commercial Road in the city centre is ablaze with decorations! Close-by highlights include glow events at Marwell Zoo, and a beautiful market at Gunwharf Quays.

Brighton & Worthing

Not to be outdone, Brighton has some weird and wonderful lights, alongside the more traditional festive fare. Sparkly aliens can be seen wearing Santa hats, whilst the Laines are lit up in sparkles. You may even catch Brighton & Hove Buses’ Santa Bus as he makes his rounds! If you’re in the area, Saxifrage Way in Worthing is well worth a visit, where multiple houses team up to create a festive light spectacular!

Yorkshire

Its illuminations galore this year at Leeds Castle, featuring festive music and an enchanting light trail. City light must-sees include Wakefield, Bradford and even the National Coal Mining Museum!

There are thousands of places to choose from this year, with people going all out to spread some festive cheer in a somewhat gloomy time.

For extra enchantment, check out the National Trust and its festive winter illuminations, or Longleat’s spectacular yearly light show. Wherever you go, be sure to wrap up warm, pack some wellies for the mud and get your hands on a rich hot chocolate!
