COVID-19 Vaccinations in New York
New York’s vaccination programme is moving at a fast pace. All New Yorkers aged 16 and older are now able to get vaccinated and, as of May 10, 60% of adult New Yorkers have now completed at least one vaccine dose. All TLC licensees are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination in New York City, so we’ve put together the latest information so you can find a vaccine center near you.
Following the announcement back in February that all TLC drivers are eligible for the vaccine, we asked drivers who use the INSHUR app if they had been to get their vaccination during February. Of the drivers we polled, 69% responded that while they want to get the vaccine, they hadn’t yet had it. If you still haven’t been able to visit a vaccination center, scroll to find the most convenient center for you.
Our poll results at a glance:
“Have you had your COVID-19 vaccine?”
12% said “Yes, I have had my vaccine”
9% said “No, but my appointment is booked”
69% said “Not yet, but I do want the vaccine”
10% said “I’m choosing not to have the vaccine”
Please be aware that the information in this blog was correct at the time of writing on May 5.
Where you can get your vaccine
TLC drivers have many sites that they can visit to receive their COVID-19 vaccination. All New Yorkers aged 16 and older are now eligible for the vaccine, so head to any of the sites below to get immunised.
The Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine is available to eligible New Yorkers at the Yankee Stadium, Javits Center and New York State Fair. (Be aware that, while the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was briefly paused, it is being used again as of April 24). These mass vaccination sites are now open overnight, an ideal option for drivers who are busy during the day.
The jointly run New York State/New York City Yankee Stadium Site opened on March 4 and offers appointments between 8pm and 7am. The Javits Center site opened on March 5 and has appointments between 9pm and 6am, while the State Fair site, which opened on the same day, is taking appointments between 10pm and 6am.
On March 29, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced a new vaccination site opening at Ruckland Community College on April 1. This is in addition to the 16 community-based pop-up vaccination sites which came online between March 18 and March 25. These sites are based in churches, public housing developments and community centers and are expected to vaccinate more than 4,500 people each week. Keep scrolling for the addresses of these 16 vaccination sites.
The six community-based vaccination sites that were established through a partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) continue to offer vaccination appointments. The Medgar Evers College vaccination center in Brooklyn and the York College center in Queens both opened on February 24 and are taking appointments from 8am to 8pm daily. Sites in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany and Yonkers also opened on March 3 and are taking appointments. Keep scrolling for the addresses of these centers and the eligible zip codes for each location.
To find other vaccination centers that are convenient for where you live, you can utilize the NYC COVID-19 Vaccine Finder.
Booking and attending your appointment
Bronx residents can make a vaccination appointment at the Yankee Stadium by visiting Somosvaccinations.com or calling 1-833-SomosNY. Vaccinations at all other sites can be scheduled on New York’s ‘Am I Eligible’ website or by calling the state’s COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline on 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829). Please be aware that it is still not advised to show up at a vaccination center without an appointment.
Support available to TLC drivers
If you’re needing some support during the pandemic, TLC licensees can use the NYC Driver Resource Center and book an appointment for assistance. The Driver Resource Center offers support in a number of areas, including financial counseling, legal services and driver protection services. You can also find useful free City resources here, such as health care insurance, mental health resources, and more.
