How Does Amazon Flex Work? INSHUR

If you’re thinking of becoming an Amazon Flex driver, it’s important to be aware of the correct insurance you’ll need before you start.

No matter if you plan to deliver full-time or part-time, Amazon requires all their Flex drivers to hold relevant insurance to protect you while you’re on the job.

Our supplementary Pay as you Flex insurance covers you for the actual time driven during your blocks or shifts with Amazon Flex, proving the level of protection you need.

Pay as you Flex won’t cover you for social use, like picking the kids up from school or popping to the shops. This insurance is known as Social, Domestic & Pleasure (SD&P), and you’ll need to have a separate SD&P policy for your vehicle at all times.

We’re proud to have partnered with Amazon Flex since 2022, bringing flexible Pay as You Flex coverage to Amazon drivers.

Let’s look at some of your commonly asked questions and help to get you road-ready in minutes.

How do I get an Amazon Pay As You Flex quote?

You can get a quote through the Amazon Flex app, or the INSHUR Amazon Flex page.

How does Amazon Pay As You Flex insurance work?

Once you’ve received your Pay as You Flex quote and are ready to purchase, you’ll start by paying for 40 hours of coverage

These hours are placed into a “wallet”, and when you book blocks through the Amazon platform, your wallet will be charged based on the actual time driven during your blocks or shifts.

A block is a period of usually 4 hours where you make deliveries. During busy periods like Black Friday, Prime Day, or Christmas, Amazon may extend blocks to 6 hours.

What happens once you're insured and signed up for Pay as you Flex?

Once you purchase a policy, your wallet will be credited with 40 hours of coverage, to be used over 90 days.

Amazon then informs us of the actual hours you’ve worked, which will be deducted from the wallet balance.

If you finish your deliveries quicker than the time you blocked, you’ll only pay for the time you were driving – so you’re never charged for hours you didn’t work. Eg, you booked a 4 hour block, but get your deliveries done in 3 hours -  your wallet will only be charged for 3 hours.

You can use the Earnings Page on the Amazon Flex app to see your actual hours.

If your wallet balance falls below 16 hours, a payment will be taken automatically using a Continuous Payment Authority (CPA). This is a type of recurring payment set up with your credit or debit card. This way you can be sure there’s always enough funds in your wallet to cover your insurance.

What are the coverage options?

We currently offer Comprehensive and Third-Party Only coverage for Amazon Flex drivers. You can choose which policy best suits your needs during the sign-up process.

It’s important to note that INSHUR Amazon Pay as You Flex does not include Social, Domestic and Pleasure (SD&P) use or continuous motor insurance. You are required by law to have a separate, continuous underlying SD&P insurance policy in place on your insured vehicle for personal use at all times.

You should also check with and notify your current SD&P insurer of your intention to work as a delivery driver/courier. Failure to advise your SD&P insurer may invalidate your SD&P policy and invalidate any Pay as you Flex policy as per the policy wording.

Can I deliver for multiple companies alongside Amazon?

Amazon Pay as You Flex insurance is designed for Amazon Flex drivers only.

However, if you also intend to deliver parcels, fast food and other goods, our Courier insurance product could be a suitable option for you.
