What is courier insurance?
Courier insurance, also called hire and reward insurance or delivery driver insurance, is a legal requirement for delivery drivers and riders carrying goods in return for payment.
This can include parcels and other goods, like fast food or takeaways.
Unlike standard car or vehicle insurance, courier insurance covers you while you’re making deliveries, keeping you protected while you work.
Do I need delivery driver insurance?
Yes. You will be breaking the law if you carry out deliveries without the correct insurance, for example, on your personal policy.
This could invalidate your insurance, meaning you won’t be covered to drive at all.
All delivery drivers in the UK must hold hire and reward insurance, or delivery driver insurance that covers carriage of goods. This is to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you.

Unfortunately, we only cover drivers and riders who are aged 23 and over.

If you have had courier insurance previously and have grown your no claims discount, you can add that to your quote and we will factor it into your price.
It is important to understand that the no claims discount you have on your personal Social, Domestic & Pleasure insurance (insurance needed for when you are not delivering) is not transferable and would not apply.
If you have had 12 30-day policies with us, you’ll receive the equivalent of a year’s no claims discount, as long as:
- You made no claims during the last 365-day period
- There were no gaps in coverage between renewals
For annual policy holders, you’ll receive a further year’s no claims discount if you haven’t made a claim in the current insurance period and your policy has been in force for twelve consecutive months.

If you intend to use your vehicle for delivery work, you’ll need to be covered by courier insurance (also known as hire and reward insurance).
This type of insurance covers your vehicle whilst you’re on the job, meaning that, should the worst happen, you’re protected.
