One of the best ways to increase earnings as a fast food delivery driver is working for multiple food delivery apps.

Fast food in the UK is big business, with the industry forecast to be worth over £22 billion in 2023.

With takeaways surpassing eating at restaurants year on year, delivery drivers are been in increasing demand. With food delivery apps fiercely competing for customers, we take a look at who’s coming out on top.

Just Eat

With over 19 million consumers in 2022 in just the UK, Just Eat is a giant of UK fast food delivery. With their catchy ad campaigns featuring the likes of Katy Perry and Christina Aguilera, Just Eat spares no expense when it comes to tempting customers to use their platform.

And it’s paid off in dividends. Just Eat grew its customer base 33% post-pandemic, and has partnered with Sainsbury’s, the Co-op and Domino’s Pizza to name a few to increase their customer reach further.

With an 18% share of the fast food delivery industry in the US, and operations in 20 countries, Just Eat is the biggest fast food delivery platform in the West.

Deliveroo

Founded in London in 2013, Deliveroo was born from frustration at a lack of delivery options from local restaurants. Fast forward 11 years, and the company is a main rival to Just Eat & Uber Eats.

Deliveroo now operates in 12 countries and is supported by 180,000 self-employed drivers across the globe.

With a record-high revenue of almost £2 billion in 2022, the company is showing no signs of slowing down.

By restricting delivery ranges, restaurants get their food quicker and hotter whilst supporting restaurants local to them.

Uber Eats

Taking the third spot in market share, Uber Eats is charting its path to success. In fact, at the start of 2023 the company had over 900,00 partner restaurants worldwide, including McDonalds. Chances are if you’ve placed an order with the golden arches, it’s been through Uber Eats.

Uber Eats offers delivery drivers a flexible way of working, similar to their Uber private vehicle-for-hire model.

PublicFirst surveyed couriers working for Uber Eats, and found 77% to be satisfied, and 42% to be very satisfied with the platform. This suggests that drivers are happy with the flexibility and extra income that Uber Eats presents. With a strong network of drivers already signed up to Uber, drivers adding Uber Eats makes logical sense, strengthening the brand’s food delivery platform.

Signing up to drive for Uber Eats is as easy as ordering a takeaway, so if you’re looking to make some money on the side, Uber Eats is worth looking at. You’ll need to make sure you have the right insurance, which is where INSHUR can help.

Foodhub

A quickly-growing fast-food delivery app in the UK, Foodhub is undercutting rivals with cheaper prices for the same meals.

By not charging commission fees to restaurants and order fees to customers, orders can often be cheaper than Foodhub’s main rivals. Instead, restaurant owners are charged a monthly subscription fee to use Foodhub’s platform.

Orders topped 34 million in 2021 as the industry strengthened and customers seek lower prices.

Though smaller in scale, Foodhub’s lower prices and no-commission business model make it an attractive choice for customers and business owners alike.

Scoffable

Award winning Co-founders wanting to make ordering takeaways easier whilst at university. Over a decade later and Scoffable supports over 600 restaurants in Scotland. Focused on staying local, HQ in Livingston with customer support available 7 days a week.

Their FAQs state they don’t inflate menu prices, meaning you’ll pay the same as ordering over the phone. However anyone looking for a fair deal outside of Scotland are out of luck, as they only operate in Scotland.

Whilst there are plenty of smaller fast food delivery apps such as OneDelivery and SUPPERLondon, the fast food delivery industry is dominated by the “big three” – Deliveroo, Just Eat & Uber Eats.

And for good reason – you can order from the big chains and smaller local restaurants all in one place, backed up by trusted companies like Uber.

Fast food delivery apps have changed the way the nation enjoys takeaways, and we can expect to see more growth in the industry in the coming years, with some experts predicting that the industry will be worth a huge £23.7 billion by 2027.
