As an Uber driver in London, you may be finding the recent changes to lane restrictions and congestion charges challenging. To ensure your trips are as free from frustration and fines as possible, we’ve put together industry updates and helpful resources on post-lockdown driving in London.
Why is this happening?
The changes aim to minimise the negative impact of cars and therefore congestion on the capital’s recovery from the pandemic.
Confirmed by Transport for London (TfL) and backed by The Mayor of London, these changes will help to:
- Make social distancing easier and safer.
- Give people the option to walk and cycle more often.
- Ensure emergency services and essential deliveries do not become gridlocked.
- Protect everyone’s health by reducing carbon emissions and keeping the city’s air as clean as possible.
What do I need to know?
In line with its Government funding agreement, TfL has urgently brought forward proposals to temporarily widen Congestion Charges.
There is a £15 daily fee to drive within the Congestion Charge zone between 07:00-22:00, every day, excluding the 25th December (Christmas Day). The easiest way to pay is by setting up Auto Pay. Exemptions and discounts are available too.
There is also now a £2 charge to use the Blackwall Tunnel to fund the new river crossing at Silvertown.
From 13th September 2020, approximately 50 miles of red route bus lanes will begin a trial scheme of operating 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Some parking bays will also be suspended to keep bus lanes clear.
