Where Are The Riders In The UK? | September 2020

At INSHUR we look for ways to help Uber drivers make more money – revealing where the crowds are is one of them. But as many events have been cancelled this year due to COVID-19, identifying reliable rider hotspots and pickup locations has become a bit of a guessing game for Private Hire drivers.

Citymapper’s Mobility Index suggests that weekend peak social hours are continuously increasing, currently around 50% compared to that of pre-pandemic life.

Socially-distanced activities and pop-up food and drink venues are a staple feature of the new normal across many city centres. Schools are back, and traditional outdoor markets are thriving. Scroll down to find out where the riders are likely to be this September.

The following information is correct at the time of writing on 2nd September. But before you go, be sure to check the latest on local restrictions from official government sources: EnglandScotland and Wales.

Back to School

August and September sees pupils across England, Scotland and Wales go back to school, or start a new school altogether. Prepare for a potential increase in morning and mid-afternoon demand. Staggered start and finish times for different year groups could mean a steady trickle of trips throughout the day.

  • Times: 11.00 am – 4.00 pm

Insider’s scoop: As this location suggests, it is central to many rider hotspots such as the National Sea Life Centre, the SACO Hotel, and the IKON Gallery. Make sure to let your rider know exactly where you are waiting. There are many pedestrianised roads and one-way systems in the area that a visitor may not know their way around.

Manchester

  • When: Friday 4th & Saturday 5th September
  • Times: 6.30 pm

Insider’s scoop: Both nights are sold out, with organisers stating that the event will go ahead even if it’s raining. Spectators are welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets, and with limited parking on site many may opt for a lift to and from the venue – particularly after a few gins!

Airports

As air passengers continue to increase, airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Stansted could be ideal places for Uber drivers to pick up passengers and get tips. Click here for all you need to know on UK airports during COVID-19.
